The short answer
To switch from Mealime to Foodoodle, copy the link or take a screenshot of each recipe you cook, sign up for Foodoodle, add the people you cook for with their diets and allergies, paste or scan the recipes in, then plan the week and shop from the list it builds.
- Gather the recipes you kept. Find the links and screenshots you kept, and the dinners you remember.
- Create your household. Sign up in your browser and name your household. It’s one screen, and no card.
- Add who eats, and their food rules. Add everyone you cook for, with each person’s diet, allergies and no-gos. Every dinner is checked against all of them.
- Bring your recipes over. Paste each recipe’s link, scan your screenshots, or type a dinner’s name. Each one lands in the recipe book the house shares.
- Plan your first week. Put dinners from your book on the days you’ll cook them. With a subscription, Foodoodle suggests the week and everyone votes.
- Shop from one list. The grocery list builds itself from the week’s dinners, scaled to who’s eating, minus what’s already at home.
Step 1: Gather the recipes you kept
Mealime deleted personal data when it shut down on October 21. Whatever you kept a copy of comes over:
- The link to each recipe. Mealime’s recipes have their own pages on mealime.com. Search the recipe’s name with the word Mealime, open its page and copy the address. A page that’s still up still works.
- A screenshot of anything you can’t find there: the ingredients and the steps, in two screenshots if it’s long. Keep them in one album.
- Your food rules. Your diet, any allergies, the foods you skip and how many you cook for. They go in for each person in step 3.
Didn’t keep a copy? Start from the dinners you remember: type the name and Foodoodle writes the recipe, or add one from the public book.
Step 2: Create your household
Sign up on your phone or computer. Setup is one screen: name your household. Foodoodle runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop, and adds to your home screen like an app. 7 days free, no card.
Cooking for one? Foodoodle stays free for one person after the 7 days: your recipes, your meal plan, the calendar and the grocery list.
Step 3: Add who eats, and their food rules
Foodoodle keeps food rules for each person, so a vegetarian, a peanut allergy and a five-year-old who won’t touch mushrooms are all checked on every dinner. Here’s where a Mealime diet goes:
| Your diet or allergy | In Foodoodle |
|---|---|
| Vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian or keto | Add it by name. It’s checked on every dinner. |
| Gluten-free or dairy-free | The same: add “gluten-free” or “dairy-free”. |
| Low carb or paleo | Add the foods you skip, like “no sugar” or “no rice”. Each is checked by name. |
| Classic or flexitarian | Nothing to add. |
| An allergy | Add it as severe or avoid: peanut, tree nut, shellfish, fish, egg, soy, sesame, or anything you type. |
Kids don’t need accounts: add a profile for each child, and you manage it. Just you? That’s free. Adding anyone else, a child’s profile included, comes with the 7 days and a subscription.
The check is a helper, not a guarantee. It flags possible conflicts from the ingredients it knows about, so always read labels. How the check works.
Step 4: Bring your recipes over
- Paste the link. Free. A Mealime recipe page comes in with its ingredients, steps and servings, and the link stays on the recipe. Links from other recipe sites and videos work too.
- Scan a screenshot. Choose it from your photos. Foodoodle reads the ingredients and steps, and you check them before it saves. A long recipe across two screenshots is fine.
- Type the name. Enter “lemon-basil fettuccine with salmon” and Foodoodle writes a full recipe you can change.
- Add from the public book. Recipes from Foodoodle’s kitchen and other households, each one tap into your book.
Recipes come over one at a time, not as a whole collection, so start with the dinners you cook most. Scanning and writing recipes come with the 7 days and the plan; typing a recipe in or pasting a link is free.
On Android, once Foodoodle is on your home screen, share a link straight to it. On iPhone, copy the link and paste it in. How the recipe book works.
Step 5: Plan your first week
Put a recipe from your book on the day you’ll cook it. Each dinner is checked against the rules of everyone eating, and anything that may conflict is flagged first.
With the 7 days and a subscription, Foodoodle also suggests a week of dinner ideas around everyone’s rules, everyone votes from their own phone, and you make the call. Anyone can say they’re out for a night, and the servings follow.
Step 6: Shop from one list
Every dinner on the plan puts its ingredients on the grocery list, scaled to how many are eating and grouped by aisle. Two recipes that need milk make one line, and what’s already in the house comes off. Add anything else, from coffee to dish soap, and tick things off as you shop.
Where everything from Mealime goes
| In Mealime | In Foodoodle |
|---|---|
| A recipe on mealime.com | A recipe in your household’s book: paste its link |
| A recipe you screenshotted | The same, scanned in and checked by you |
| Your weekly meal plan | The week’s dinners, for everyone you cook for |
| The grocery list it generates | One list the house shares, built from the week, minus what’s at home |
| Your diet preferences | Each person’s food rules, checked on every dinner |
| Step-by-step instructions | Cook mode: one step at a time, the screen kept on, and a timer for every wait |
Past dinner, the same app holds the family calendar and chores that take turns, and it connects to Claude or ChatGPT. How to connect.
What’s happening to Mealime
Mealime was discontinued on October 21, 2026. Its notice says all personal data is deleted when the app shuts down. Mealime’s recipes move to Meals Hub, inside Albertsons Companies’ grocery apps and websites, such as Safeway, Albertsons, Vons and Jewel-Osco, where some preferences and settings need setting up again.
If you shop at an Albertsons Companies store, Meals Hub keeps Mealime’s recipes close. If you want a planner the whole house shares, with everyone’s food rules on every dinner, that’s Foodoodle. Read Mealime’s notice.
Foodoodle isn’t affiliated with Mealime, Meals Hub or Albertsons Companies. Mealime is a trademark of its owner. What this page says about Mealime comes from its closing notice, its Privacy Policy, its website and its App Store listing, checked October 15, 2026.
