Gratin Dauphinois

A classic French side dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes baked in rich cream and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 2 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 800 g)
  • 300 ml heavy cream
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 50 g grated cheese (optional) (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F). 5 min
  2. In a bowl, combine the cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. 5 min
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. 5 min
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes. 2 min
  5. Layer the remaining potatoes on top. 5 min
  6. Pour the rest of the cream mixture over the top layer. 2 min
  7. Sprinkle grated cheese on top if using. 1 min
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. 3 min
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 min. 40 min
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 min until golden and bubbly. 20 min
