Char Siu Pork

Sticky red-glazed roast pork, marinated overnight for maximum flavor.

Ingredients

  • 600 g pork shoulder, cut into strips about 2 inches thick.
  • 5 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp Chinese rice wine
  • 1 tbsp five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 piece ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil. 5 min
  2. Add pork strips to the marinade and coat well. 2 min
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. 4 h
  4. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). 5 min
  5. Place the marinated pork on a rack in a baking dish. 2 min
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, turning halfway through. 30 min
  7. Glaze with remaining marinade and bake for an additional 10 minutes. 10 min
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions. 5 min
